Manchester is a thriving City and great to visit be it for work or pleasure. The city has certainly evolved from its rich dirty industrial roots with the city expanding to areas that were merely dark backstreets in the past. For example the trendy bars and shops of the Northern quarter to the upmarket area around the law courts known as Spinningfields with its pop-up culture. For shopping, there is the 70’s icon that is the ‘Arndale Centre’ which covers all the general shops that any man or woman could need. Plus the more boutique and designer focussed King Street or Deansgate. If like me, shopping is not your thing then there is a wealth of experience to be had… Such as the museums like ‘The Manchester Museum’ with it’s Egyptian relics and ancient artefacts or the ‘Science And Industry Museum’ which shows Manchester’s more engineering based achievements… There is great theatre too with the innovative Royal Exchange which shows both new local productions and the classics. For example, on writing this they are about to present “King Leah’. However, If this is all that little bit too heavy for you then we have a wealth of light entertainment with musicals and shows at the Palace theatre and the Opera House. Food wise no matter what the lovely people ‘down south’ say we can compete with London. We have more than enough top standard restaurants such as ‘The French by Simon Rogan’ or the ‘Manchester House’. For a more ethnic and down experience, we have our fabulous China Town with its impressive arch and the Curry Mile just south of the city centre with its Spices and bright colours. There is an abundance of new hotels that seem to be appearing monthly if not weekly, such as the impressive 5 star ‘Gotham Hotel’ with it’s Batman theme and the Hotel Football just beside the Manchester United football ground. Indeed we are truly a sporting city with the 2 feuding local teams Manchester City and United. Now generally providing only gentle rivalry as we are all instinctively Mancunians at heart and we are friends. All warm northerners who will make you feel super special visiting our precious city. Have a great time.
